Valentine’s Day works like this.
People who hate the day are either in love with the wrong person and/or secretly love it. Why hate it? Jealousy. Reasons for jealousy: 1) The one they currently “love” are FOR SOME REASON not their Valentine or even theirs at the time. 2) You hate seeing love. Hate it because you want it? You probably wouldn’t have this position if you had someone. Secretly loves it.
They hate it because they’re too independent. If you’re independent, why hate? It makes no difference to your independence so no reason to be negative.
People who love it. Obvious. Love.
People who love it but aren’t with anybody? One: They had a Valentine’s Day to remember. They don’t trip about not having someone because they know it would be hard to top. Two: They were truly in love at some point in time in their lives. They don’t hate it because they know what it is being celebrated. They don’t hate because they don’t see it as the sugar-coated cuddlebear, but as something real. Not a day of presents or a day allowing PDA, but as a celebration of the raw emotion stuffed into a four-letter description - L O V E.
PS. I’m not saying this applies to everyone. Thus, “theory”.
